Why Disney?
I was seventeen when I experienced Walt Disney World for the first time. I can remember details about that trip like it just happened yesterday! The hustle and bustle of Main Street, the thrill of Splash Mountain, and the whirlwind indoor roller coaster ride at Space Mountain. The Magic Kingdom was celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary and the castle was decorated like a giant birthday cake. Even to my cynical seventeen-year-old mind, I could not help but be enchanted by the sight of that castle. Everything about that first visit still remains with me twenty-one years later.
Now I look at my thirteen-year-old son and I still see the magic in his eyes every time we visit Disney. Mick has been going to Disney since he was five months old. One of my most precious memories of Mick was while we were eating breakfast in the Crystal Palace. I’d say he was about fifteen months old and obsessed with Pooh Bear. The look on my sweet boy’s face when the characters came out was priceless. The photos we have of him with Pooh, Piglet, Eyeore and Tigger are considered high value items to me.
There truly is something so magical about Disney that words alone can’t express it – it is just something you feel. Mick is older now and yes, certain things have changed but one thing still remains – the joy and magic that lights up in his eyes when I tell him we are going to Disney!
