Disney Announces Exciting Changes for the Disability Access Service
Families who travel with a loved one who has a disability will be happy to learn about new improvements to the already existing Disability Access Service (DAS). We appreciate the system when we visit Disney because it helps our son, who has multiple disabilities, truly enjoy the Disney experience.
What is the DAS? It is a program offered at Walt Disney World theme parks to assist Guests who have difficulty tolerating extended waits in a conventional queue environment due to disability. Guests request a return time to ride a certain attraction and then enjoy the park until their return time opens. Guests can currently request one Return Time and once that is used, can request a different return time.
How is it improving? In addition to on-site registration at Guest Relations, Guests can now register up to 30 days prior to arrival at the parks but no less than 2 days in advance using a live video chat with a cast member. At that time, guests can choose 2 one-hour return windows for select experiences using the DAS Advance planning option. These are in addition to the return times you can request throughout the day of your actual park visit.
Disney also plans to allow pre-registered guests to request a Return Time through the My Disney Experience App. This will be a huge help! Previously, one member of your party would have to visit the Cast Members at each attraction and request the return time. The ease of doing this from a phone will make the visit to Disney theme parks even better. Thank you Disney for continually finding ways to make magic for kids like my son.
